Overland Salta is an adventure tourism and cycle touring company based in the city of Salta, with over twenty years of experience organizing mountain bike tours throughout the province. Founded by Gustavo Suárez in 2003, it is recognized as one of the pioneering operators in developing the Cuesta del Obispo mountain bike descent, an activity that has become a benchmark among adventure excursions in northwestern Argentina. The company is licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Province of Salta, is a member of A.D.O.P.T.A. (Association of Adventure Tourism Operators and Providers), and has received TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice award in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2025.
Overland Salta's offering combines cycle touring, landscape interpretation, wildlife spotting, and local gastronomy in every outing. Excursions depart from the city of Salta and cover some of the most varied circuits in the region, crossing the Los Cardones National Park, the Calchaquí Valleys, the Escoipe Gorge, and destinations such as Cachi, Humahuaca, and Calilegua National Park. Every tour includes transfers, full equipment, a specialized guide, lunch, and a drone photo and video session.
The mountain bike tours available at Overland Salta are:
• Cuesta del Obispo Descent (1 day): the company's flagship circuit. Starting from Piedra del Molino at 3,457 meters above sea level, it descends 43 km with a total elevation of 2,240 meters, transitioning from the arid puna landscape to the Yungas cloud forest along the Escoipe Gorge.
• Cachi + Cuesta del Obispo (2 days / 1 night): a combination that includes a day through Los Cardones National Park with an overnight stay in Cachi, followed by the Cuesta descent.
• Tour of the Calchaquí Valleys (4 days / 3 nights): a multi-day route through the most representative landscapes and villages of the Calchaquí Valleys in Salta province.
• Abra del Acay Challenge / Humahuaca – P.N. Calilegua (4 to 5 days): the company's most demanding and intense options, designed for cyclists seeking extreme routes in northern Argentina.
• Vuelta al Norte (4 days / 3 nights): a long-distance circuit through the Salta north, with scheduled departures by season.
The equipment provided for each excursion includes Venzo Raptor and Raptor Evo mountain bikes with hydraulic disc brakes in sizes S, M, and L, Pro Tec helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, lycra neck warmers, and reflective vests. Every bike undergoes a full service and wash after each outing. Before starting the descent, the guide delivers an instructive safety talk and protocol briefing for all participants, regardless of their experience level.
In addition to equipment and technical guidance, every mountain bike tour in Salta organized by Overland Salta includes mechanical assistance throughout the route, a support vehicle, round-trip transfers from the city of Salta with a meeting point at Buenos Aires Street 93, a lunch stop at a local roadside restaurant included in the Cuesta del Obispo excursion, and full photo and drone video coverage. The guide holds wilderness first aid and rescue training (WFR), certification as a rafting guide accredited by the International Rafting Federation, and experience as a birdwatching guide.
