Estancia Pampa Grande
Lodging at Estancias
Finca Pampa Grane, Salta, Salta
Estancia Pampa Grande is a rural accommodation property located in the hills of Salta, set in a fertile valley at 1,700 metres above sea level and surrounded by 30,000 hectares of Andean landscape. The property holds a significant place in Argentine colonial history, as its lands originally belonged to Hernando de Lerma, founder of the city of Salta and Governor of Tucumán.
The experience at this estancia combines authentic rural life with quality accommodation in a carefully restored colonial house. Guests can join the gauchos in their daily work, explore the land on horseback, and connect with a way of life that is rarely found in other destinations across northwest Argentina.
The estancia offers the following room types:
• 10 double rooms with en-suite bathroom, bathtub and shower
• 2 single rooms with en-suite bathroom, bathtub and shower
All rooms feature open fireplaces. The colonial house — known locally as "la sala" — includes wide galleries that connect the interior spaces with the natural surroundings, offering clear views of the night sky and the Milky Way. The reception rooms and suites were renovated incorporating traditional elements and local details, and display Argentine art and pre-Columbian artefacts.
The facilities at Estancia Pampa Grande include a dining room seating up to 24 guests, decorated with historical German furniture, and a separate sitting room fitted with a French billiard table and video screen. The property also features an office and library, a pool house with a ping-pong table, and a heated swimming pool available during the summer months. Outside, guests can relax in a seating area with a traditional brasero.
Horsemanship is central to life at the estancia: over one hundred horses are used in rotation by the gauchos to work with the cattle. Riding excursions are organised for all levels, from beginners — children and adults a — to experienced riders, crossing open land where it is possible to spot condors circling high above the Andean peaks.
The grounds also include a chapel dedicated to Santa Rosa de Lima, patron saint of Pampa Grande, open to the local community.
