Pino Hachado to Lonquimay - El Manzanar Hot Springs

Leave from Copahue to Loncopue, the closest village to Caviahue, come down the Andes, take national route 23 to Las Lajas and from there take national route 22 to Paso Pino Hachado, situated at 1884 m.

This pass is open from December to May. There is Customs and Gendarmerie, where you must stop to complete some forms.

There are about 80 km. to Lonquimay in Chile.

You pass through this Centenary Tunnel constructed by the British to connect the bordering commercial area with the Atlantic coast. This road is used by vehicles and it is intended to be renewed as a bioceanic corridor.

The tunnel is 4.500 m. long, and in Chile there are also other minor tunnels in disuse at different heights on the hillsides.

The toll costs u$s 2 and you must wait for the traffic light.

Shortly after crossing the frontier you can visit Termas del Manzanar, a Thermal Resort situated 17 km. before Curacautín with pools, individual baths and springs open all year. The hotel was inaugurated in 1952. It has two thermal water pools in the open air with a temperature of about 48ºC.

From this place you can go on several short outings either walking or on horseback, or go fishing. You can also go to Saltos de la Princesa, del Indio and del Malleco. Salto de la Princesa is 22 km. from Curacautín in the middle of an exhuberant natural beauty. It has a height of 25 m.
