Pehuen-Có, Where the Sun Always Shines

The afforestation tasks carried out to fix the dunes ornament a scene that features all the necessary traits to ensure a stay in contact with nature.

The physiognomy of Pehuen-Có pays tribute to its Mapuche name, which refers to the presence of pine trees and water, two fundamental symbols in the native beliefs that characterize this seaside destination.

The sea breeze and the slow pace of this district are felt at the access roundabout. Its sandy streets led us to the waterfront, the sand hills and the sea.

As we reached the shore, the vastness of the sea littoral showed that every activity has its own ample space. Nothing is crowded. Some groups of people were walking around, others were sunbathing and others were enjoying the water. The large number of vacationers relished the warm sea currents and the amusing waves.

The sand hills occupy a large surface alongside the beach and they were fixed on the days the village was settled, in the mid twentieth century. Another admirable idea was to plant pine trees and eucalyptus, as they protect the urban area from the prevailing winds. The Enchanted Woods offer a green nursery and the chance to go for a pleasant walk at sunset.

Several paleontological sites have emerged in the outskirts. It is surprising to stand in front of the fossil tracks of mammals and birds from over 10,000 years ago that emerge from the clayish soil of the beach just a few kilometers away from the downtown. Likewise, the area known as Las Rocas gives evidence of the presence of vertebrates millions of years ago.

We walked around the center and learned about the accommodation and supply services available. Small and cozy, it features all kinds of stores and coffee places that summon the young in the evenings.

The boat house and the mill house are two interesting constructions that amaze viewers.

Angling enthusiasts will find specialized stores and guides that will take them out to sea towards the areas where varied fishing is guaranteed year round.

Pehuen-Có is a seaside village with its own unconditional fans and the particular feature that the sun rises and sets on the sea. It is an invitation to rest, to enjoy an informal lifestyle and to become immersed in its wild nature.
