Urban Nueva Atlantis

A place for the family and particularly for children, this beach is characterized by its safety and a booming building infrastructure with nature all around.

Once the access to Nueva Atlantis is crossed from the route known as interbalnearia we are welcomed by streets made of dirt or seashell with different constructions scattered around.

As we moved towards the center, the number of constructions increased gradually. The downtown made its appearance with one and two-story houses featuring a coquettish architecture and stores offering services as well as handicrafts.

We took Roldán Avenue, the main artery that leads to the ocean front and the only access to the beach. This is the most active point. Many pedestrians carrying parasols and beach chairs were either finding their way towards the sand or out of it.

The seafront is winding, with sand hills and plenty of tree species that ensure shade and protection from the prevailing winds.

In the outskirts, adventure sports take advantage of the solitary site in order to unfold attractions. Water and air sports, besides ATV rides on the sand, are the most popular. Small water crafts propelled by engines or kayaks are allowed in parallel with the coast. This way, they do not interfere with people who are enjoying the water and the waves.

We saw some youngsters drawing pirouettes with their sky surfs and sliding on their boards to land on the water with an uncertain result, either softly or falling heavily down.

Back in the center, almost on the corner of Olmos Street and Roldán Street, we found Our Lady of Sorrows and Saint Sepulcher Chapel and its Stations of the Cross. A few self-service markets, pubs and ice-cream shops made up the offer of the district.

Nueva Atlantis is a finding for those in search of an unusual place, with the same taste of the sea as the rest but with an even wilder spirit.
