Estancia La Estela
3-star Hostelries
Ruta 40 y Paso del Río La Leona, El Calafate, Santa Cruz
Estancia La Estela is a ranch lodge situated on the shores of Lago Viedma, at kilometer 615 of Route 40, halfway between El Calafate and El Chaltén, in the province of Santa Cruz. The property operates as a countryside accommodation set within a Patagonian steppe landscape, with direct views of Monte Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the La Leona river, adjacent to the historic Parador La Leona. With 8 suites and an offering that combines regional gastronomy, equestrian activities and recreational facilities, it represents a complete lodging option for travelers exploring southern Patagonia.
The lodge features 8 suites overlooking the lake, the Andes mountain range and the Patagonian steppe, available in different configurations:
• Double Suite (27 m²)
• Triple Suite (40 m²)
• Quadruple Suite (52 m²)
Each unit includes bathroom amenities, a hairdryer and regional décor. Guests have access to housekeeping service, complimentary 24-hour coffee service, free parking and wifi in rooms and common areas. Laundry service and private transfers from El Calafate, the airport and El Chaltén are available at an additional cost. Early check-in is offered at no charge subject to availability, and late check-out is available with a surcharge.
The lodge's facilities are designed to make the most of the surrounding natural environment. A multipurpose hall of over 250 m² includes a wood-burning fireplace, pool table, library, board games, a wine cellar with a ion of Argentine wines and a glass-enclosed observatory with mountain views. The matera is the dedicated space for breakfasts and dinners, overlooking Lago Viedma and the mountains. The stables house more than 20 horses available for equestrian activities. Refugio Yatén, located on the lakeshore and reached on horseback, is used for field lunches. Rounding out the facilities are an organic vegetable garden and a vineyard planted with Pinot Noir and Semillón grapes, covering approximately 800 m² under cover.
The gastronomic offer includes a buffet breakfast with regional products, artisan breads, homemade cakes, cold cuts and cheeses. Field lunches at Refugio Yatén are served following a horseback ride across dunes and lakeshore, with disk-cooked beef as the main dish. The matera serves lunches and dinners featuring regional dishes prepared by the property's chef: meats, fish, stuffed pastas, risottos and salads from the on-site garden, accompanied by wines and craft beers. In the afternoons, a charcuterie and cheese board is offered for guests to enjoy in the SUM by the fire.
Available activities include guided horseback rides across the steppe and coastal dunes, and excursions to Bosque Petrificado La Leona, a unique geological site of interest in the area. The lodge is located 185 km from Glaciar Perito Moreno and 85 km from the El Calafate international airport.
