Punta Ballena is a whale watching company in Puerto Pirámides, with more than 50 years of experience in Península Valdés. Founded by Jorge Schmid, a pioneer of the activity in the region, it offers boat trips to observe Southern Right Whales in their natural habitat, within the waters of Golfo Nuevo. Its base of operations is the Punta Ballena Whale Watching Center, located at Segunda Bajada al Mar in Puerto Pirámides, an essential starting point for anyone visiting this area of Chubut, declared a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.

The whale watching in Puerto Pirámides experience runs from mid-June to mid-December, when Southern Right Whales choose the calm waters of Golfo Nuevo to mate, give birth and raise their calves. During the trip, a specialized bilingual whale guide accompanies passengers, explaining the behavior and characteristics of these marine giants, aboard boats equipped with operational and safety techniques designed for both visitors and local wildlife.
