The day begins with tortas fritas, coffee, and mate while the horses are being prepared, and continues with a guided ride through mountain trails, ravines, and streams up to a remote spot at 2,850 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, guests share an Argentine asado with cold cuts and Mendoza wine before heading back.
For those seeking a longer experience, Estación La Matera organizes the Crossing of the Andes on Horseback, a multi-day journey that follows part of the historic routes used by the Libertador Army. The route crosses the Portillo de Piuquenes and ascends to the Paso Portillo Argentino, at over 4,300 meters in altitude, before descending and returning to the starting point. Overnight stays along the way are in mountain shelters and campsites.
