Ski in Neuquén

Caviahue Ski Neuquén

Caviahue ski resort lies at the foot of Copahue Volcano, 1,647 meters MSL, immersed in one of the most stunning spots in the Andes Mountain Range.

Besides its forests, lakes and rivers, Caviahue welcomes tourists to entertain them not only with ski but also with the volcanic mineral properties of its hot spring waters. All this is surrounded by the most breathtaking natural scenery.

A thousand hectares are available to ski every winter. One of the longest ski seasons in the southern hemisphere is enjoyed at this location.

Visitors can ski around historical forests of conifers and monkey-puzzle trees along one of the more than twenty trails offered by the resort, always watched by the unmistakable silhouette of the Copahue Volcano. There is no doubt that after skiing, a hot spring bath is an invitation to relax.

For all these reasons, Caviahue is one of the must visit spots during the winter. Its services include accommodation and restaurants.

2012 News

New lifts at the base and the intermediate area in the mountain:
A new surface lift was set up at the base. It is a 350-meter-long teleski. As well, another surface lift which already existed has been enlarged, namely, the woods teleski, which used to be 380 meters long and now spans 920 meters and can transport 800 people per hour.

Three new trails (one red, one blue and one green) have been opened. They are accessed through new lifts.

The family services offer has also been increased and new options have been added for children: daycare, snow garden and junior club. Children can take individual or group lessons and enjoy events and competitions.

Cutting-edge technology has been incorporated in ski and snowboarding equipment rental, both for adults and children. Likewise, the gear pick-up and drop-off system is now more dynamic, thus improving the rental service significantly.

Ticket sales have been improved so that the service is fast and dynamic.

Cerro Caviahue has joined the program known as 'Good Practices', coordinated by the National Tourist Office, Neuquén's Territorial Development Office and the Municipality of Caviahue, which contributes to maintaining services and tourist quality at this destination. This program consists in training the winter resort staff as far as customer service as well as security and rescue are concerned.

The resort's tour department, called 'Caviahue Adventure', will keep on providing and adding alternatives to enjoy the snow: excursions that include high mountain crossings, snowmobile rides to cascades, waterfalls, vantage points, panoramic points, off piste with powder snow, dog-sledding, night tours and the 'Antarctic Experience', which consists in ascending to the village of Copahue on a snowmobile or caterpillar vehicle and visiting the hot springs of Copahue. Besides, visitors may go up to the Copahue Volcano crater on a caterpillar vehicle and ski downhill along an 8-kilometer off-piste route.

The delicious 'Star Dinner' may also be enjoyed. It consists in going uphill on snowmobiles and/or caterpillar vehicles up to Pehuén Coffee Store (at 1,750 meters of height) at night in order to taste regional dishes and be delighted by a candlelight dinner while beholding the spectacular view of the village of Caviahue lit up below.

We keep the tradition of inviting our guests every Friday after the downhill torch parade to share a cup of hot chocolate or wine.
