 acing the blue sea, Las Grutas and San Antonio Oeste are two bathing resorts located on the Atlantic coast in the Province of Río Negro which lie just 15 kilometers from one another.
The combination of geographical, oceanographic and atmospheric factors makes the temperature of Las Grutas and San Antonio Oeste range between 22º and 25º C, thus turning these sea waters into the warmest in the entire Argentinian coastline.
Las Grutas is one of the favorite seaside resorts among tourists in Río Negro, as its vast and golden beaches and its calm and transparent sea with cliffs carved by the erosion of the wind and the water offer singular rest every summer.
Its shores are ideal for long walks or watching the vastness of the sea from the cliffs where the waves have carved real caves or grottos year after year. These formations have given the name to this area (Grutas stands for grotto in Spanish).
Recreational activities represent another tourist attraction in the area. The sunshine is enjoyed until very late in the afternoon which favors the practice of a great deal of adventurous sports. Likewise, in some opportunities, silence and the appreciation of nature rule over the scene.
Visitors usually choose excursions showing the various natural attractions. This area has countless interesting destinations attracting tourists from all over the country.
Nautical activities, such as windsurfing, jet-ski riding, water ski and SCUBA diving, are especially chosen by visitors, whereas fishing fans will find a great deal of snook, white sea bream, sole, anchovy, salmon, silverside, dusky grouper and comber in the surroundings of Las Grutas. They may fish either on boats or from the shore, whether on the beach or the cliffs.
