Southern Patagonia Naval Sea Museum

The Sea Museum was inaugurated on September 10, 1994. This house was also part of the first housing estate in the city, known as Barrio de la Gobernación.

Naval Sea Museum
It houses part of the history of the Navy, ever since its transfer to the city, which took place in 1936, to this date.

It features several facilities, including Edmundo Gramajo Historical Hall, which pays tribute to the captain in charge of Transporte América, which arrived in Río Gallegos on October 19, 1936 carrying the first 56 men of the Navy.

Some of the most outstanding elements include the replica of a frigate, the history of the evolution of the Force uniform, a painting portraying "A.R.A. Villarino" and another one showing the so-called "Embrace of the Strait", between President Julio Argentino Roca and Federico Errázuriz, President of Chile, on board the flagship "O'Higgins" during the famous encounter that took place on the Strait of Magellan in February, 1899. There is also a description of naval heroes, ancient uniforms, scale models of vessels and remains of ships used in the Nineteenth century, a brief review of the Malvinas War and a small library containing literature on Argentinian sea history.

In the gardens of the house, visitors may appreciate a hundred-year-old anchor and a motorboat belonging to former "A.R.A. 9 de Julio" cruiser, which rescued the crew of the Villarino shipwreck at Camarones Bay.
