Madryn is a synonym for sea, for good dishes made with fish and seafood freshly brought by the ships that gourmet cuisine prepares for our own delight.
When the day comes to an end, after touring around the beaches of Puerto Madryn and enjoying the wide array of wildlife mapping options, it is time to plunge into a delicious and varied menu.
Being so close to the sea, we had to pay a visit to the gastronomic venues in the city in order to taste each of the exquisite sea specialties prepared at each of them. We chose one restaurant that has been around for over 45 years and three generations that have maintained the essence of its specialized cuisine alive.
We reached the restaurant door and a slightly perceptible aroma gave us a hint of what we were about to taste. The waiter walked us to our seats and gave us some recommendations without haste.
A very complete menu in which sea flavors are the stars is completed by regional dishes. Should any customer require so, beef and poultry dishes are also available accompanied by scrumptious sauces.
One of the most popular dishes is paella a la valenciana, made with prawns, mussels, clams, rice and spices. Another very Patagonian dish is grilled prawn, octopus and pollack prepared using different cooking techniques.
To sum up: it is hard to make up one's mind when in front of such a multifaceted menu but in the end, we shared some delicacies so as to experience the different tastes.
As we waited for our orders, we observed the numerous staff coming and going to wait on the tables both on the first and second floor. Ariel Bordenave and his family run the business and they have made the restaurant famous beyond the city boundaries. According to them, there are no secrets. Quality, skill and a good selection of dishes and wines have been the basis for their success for years.
While waiting for the main course, we took notice of the great deal of photographs and dedications on the walls of the venue. They were the vivid reflection of the visit of well-known artists, sportsmen and politicians that had a meal at this restaurant: Juan Manuel Fangio, Mirtha Legrand, Mauricio Macri, Ricardo Bochini and Daniel Scioli, to name a few.
Then came a paella, exquisite pout, and a grilled shrimp we share and accompanied with a rich wine.
'Dessert?' '¡No! We have had enough'. 'Aren't you going to taste our star dessert?' 'Ok, well, we will'. 'Good, then I will bring Copa Angelito for you. You will not regret it...' And thus, we crowned our dinner with an amazing sweet treat.
It was a good ending for a day of whale, penguin, sea lion and sea elephant watching. And just as we were recommended this place, we recommend it for everyone. This is a tradition of good eating.
