Here we present three restaurants that set the gastronomic trend in the southern coast with their own stamp. Next, the guidelines about what we liked best in the Puerto Madryn gourmet. |
 |
Cantina El Náutico
A classic among the classics, this restaurant is located at the top of the list of favorite seaside resorts. Ariel and Ángel Bordenave –father and son– open the doors of one of the best known gastronomical spots in Puerto Madryn.
The unbeatable quality of its products, the expertise of its cooks and the coherence of a cuisine essentially from the sea justify the attained success.
Assisted by a troupe of expert waiters who are always attentive to the customers’ call, waiting for the desired dish does not take long. There is a varied wine menu for all tastes and pockets.
Its walls, packed with time, reflect the passing of celebrities and famous sportsmen who had a meal there. Among the most outstanding celebrities, there are the photographs of Juan Manuel Fangio, Mirtha Legrand, Mauricio Macri, Ricardo Bochini and Daniel Scioli. |

|
It is a two-storey building with enough space to lodge 40 tables; therefore, there usually are tables available. In this opportunity, we recommend a cold sea food starter. Small prawns, small mussels, scallops, squid rings, shells and octopus await the most demanding palate. In order to follow the same line, do not hesitate to ask for a paella or a grilled seafood arranged in a sort of sword. Servings are abundant. As a result, a second helping will not be necessary. At dessert time, the “copa Angelito” wins the first prize. Do not hesitate in asking for it. |
La gaviota cocinera
Very versatile, Pablo Tolosa displays his skills as a good cook while Flavia –his wife– shows an inclination for plastic arts on the walls of this place. The results of this merge may be appreciated in their restaurant located at avenida Gales (Wales Avenue).
La gaviota cocinera, a species typical of Madryn latitudes, inspired them to give a name to their gastronomic shop.
Nowadays, they are a part of local history. Under the motto “as if you were at home”, they open their door each day to offer sumptuous dishes and warm assistance.
The tables are distributed into several rooms, thus giving the place a feeling of intimacy. The walls and columns dress up in local artists exhibitions which vary every fortnight.
Its classic cuisine with a pinch of modernity offers two fixed-priced menus. One only starter, made up by a snack and Spanish tapas, becomes the protagonist of the first moments of the meal. |
 |
At the time of the main course, we recommend some tenderloin with leek and mustard sauce, or some pejerrey with fine steamed vegetables. Another interesting choice is grilled chicken stuffed with olives and dry tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and tomato juice without seeds.
Fine table wines accompany these dishes, being the products of the Chandon and Zuccardi Wineries the most popular.
As in every good meal, a good dessert is mandatory. Three delicacies not to be missed are: fruit hydrated with white wine and ice-cream, warm dulce de leche crepê with ice-cream and chocolate mousse. |
El Escondido
Nicolás Oviedo del Valle is one of the new owners of this classical restaurant in Madryn. In these cozy and relaxed surroundings, the young chef Mariano Ameri presents careful versions of a cuisine that mingles Patagonian and Mediterranean flavors. |
 |
Every night, Ameri proposes its outstanding dishes with varieties that include fresh fish, homemade pasta and regional specialties. After a traditional snack, we tasted the lamb roll with Malbec sauce and herbs, served with squashes au gratin. We also had some chicken breast with citric sauce.
For those who prefer fish, they may choose the pollack in white wine and green onion sauce, or pejerrey au gratin with rice timbale.
We tasted Jiménez Riili’s Perpetum 2004 Malbec and Finca Roja 2004 Cabernet Sauvignion from the Añelo Wineries, provided by the Madryn Vinos Wine Cellar.
For dessert, we were served fruit brochette and a delicious apple crumble dish.
After the meal, a glass of lemoncello was the finale touch for an exquisite evening at this well-known gourmet site.

Following these suggestions and recommendations, just enjoy Puerto Madryn gastronomy after visiting the whales, the sea lions and the elephant seals, or the penguins at Punta Tombo. |
