Adventure Sports in Puerto Madryn

The sandhills, the cliffs and the sea are some of the natural scenes ideal for adventure sports.

Puerto Madryn lures visitors year round, especially when it comes to southern right whale watching and SCUBA diving. In addition to these splendid options, there are several adventure activities that take advantage of proper surfaces and scenes.

Sliding on a board is not exclusive to snowy mountains. In the summer, the golden sands enable adventurers to practice sand-boarding on the soft slopes. Very close to Madryn, the beach offers excellent spaces where slalom and freestyle competitions are held year after year attended by a great deal of people.

Likewise, paragliding has its own space on the sea horizon, where the best sportsmen in this discipline unfold their gliders and color the sky in each presentation. In Madryn, the winds from the west usually surpass 15 kilometers per hour and are favorable to unfurl the flexible sails to the mercy of the air currents.

The cliffs of Paraná Beach feature about 20 meters of height, ideal to start a 500-meter run to Punta Este. This place gets crowded with spectators who get the best panoramic view of flights organized both during the day and at night. Also 100 kilometers away from the city, in Puerto Pirámides, there is a zone inside the Valdés Peninsula where it is usual to find expert paraglider pilots.

But there is more. Snorkeling is another attraction at the beaches of Punta Este: Kaiser, Cerro Avanzado and Punta Cuevas. The fascinating sub-aquatic world makes it possible for visitors to have fun while they learn about some sea species that dwell in the areas close to the shore. They just need some swim-fins, diving mask and wetsuit, that is to say, the basic diving equipment.

When the sun shines bright, the wind is a good relief and the rest areas on the beach are packed with tourists, the beaches in the south are most enjoyable as they offer the best “trails” for the practice of windsurfing. It is not essential to have a board, sail and harness for the operators usually offer the equipment for rent, as well as neoprene suits for those who are sensitive to low temperatures.

Sea kayaking is another usual practice. It may be enjoyed with the family and no previous experience is needed. It requires low physical effort and the outings are available in the company of a guide that not only will offer safety but also information on the coastline and the species dwelling in it.

The vast beaches of very fine sand at Puerto Madryn are the scene for the most varied activities summer after summer and an excellent way to welcome tourists who will not settle for just sunbathing on their beach mats.
