From the city of El Chaltén you can go hiking to Laguna del Desierto, a scarcely explored site of surprising beauty and extraordinary possibilities distant only 37 km.
You must leave early in the morning and take the debris road to the lagoon, a place that has been the scenery of intense controversies related to the limits between Argentina and Chile. |

After walking for an hour and a half along the trail, you will find Chorrillo del Salto, an impressing waterfall. Since you are not in a hurry you can stop there to rest and havae a snack.
As for the rest of the journey, most trails get into private properties, whose owners have permitted the transit.
The circuit is quite complicated, but the view of the glacier and Mount Torre from the distance will comfort you. Moreover, you can see along the way the north east face of Cerro Fitz Roy, which is not normally seen. |
