It is situated on the Argentine Sea, over the south margin of the estuary of Puerto Santa Cruz (Lat. 50º 07' .Long. 68º 25' ), along national route 288.

The estuary of the river Santa Cruz constitutes an excellent natural port. The access to it is 1,2 miles wide and situated between Punta Entrada and Punta Cascajo. It is oriented in a north west direction, and has an extension of 13 miles until the confluence of the rivers Santa Cruz and Chico.

It is a sheltered deep port where this modern pier has been constructed. It is an important overseas port with a platform 158 metres long and 30 metres wide, with double front berth enlarged by two 11 metres long by 7 metres wide clumps of piles for mooring, with what the berthing front reaches 280 metres.

The port has illumination and marking with buoys, electric energy supply, fire fighting system, drinking water, fuel, fiscal deposits, containers lot, sea agencies, port cargo, food supply, etc.

The anchoring ground reaches up to 26 metres. Opposite the city there is another anchorage place that reaches a depth of 9,14 metres.
