When you visit Península Valdés, you should not miss this itinerary to learn about the economic pillars of the region, what will let you have a wider comprehension of the peculiar idiosincracy of the inhabitants of this city. |
| |
From Av. Domeq García you must drive to the north, take provincial route 1 leading to Península de Valdés Natural Reserve, and there you will find the Production Park. |
| |
The first thing you will see on the right is a 1500 m. long dock, from where export products from raw materials to manufactured products for an annual amount of 400 million dollars leave the country.
Some meters from there on the left is Aluar Argentine Aluminium Factory, where 1800 laborers work on the production of primary aluminium and aluminium alloy of a 99.9 % purity that is the pride ofall the people in Madryn. |
| |
The high voltage lines entering the factory that you will see come from Futaleufú Dam and are meant to carry out the electrolysis process in the production of the aluminium.
Then you will see a place where they work with patagonian rocks: porphyritic rocks and porphyry quartz. |
| |
These granitic rocks of volcanic origin are extracted from several estancias in the area, mainly from Sierra Chata. Once in the factory, rocks are broken and transformed into stone slabs, which are exported to many places in the world, mainly to Trento in Italy.
These stones are very much used in decoration, since a polished porphyry stone is almost comparable to the finest Carrara marble. |

Hangars on the right belong to the Fishing Industry Park of Puerto Madryn, a site that constitutes the economic root of the city. From its birth Puerto Madryn was characterized by its high exploitation of the Argentine Sea.
Then on your left you will see Fábrica de Cerámicas Patagonia, a recently inaugurated factory of white ceramics for floors. |
| |
From the total production, one part is distributed within the country and another part abroad. The factories were emplaced here because both on the north and south margins of the Chubut river there are 220 kaolin deposits in the open air, being this the raw material for the production of white ceramics. |
| |
Most of the economic support of the region are these important companies, which together with tourism, make of Puerto Madryn an interesting place where you can understand through history the past and the present of the city, but above all, see its projection to the future. |
