From Esquel you must take Av. Alvear or Ameghino to the west, turn right , drive to the turning point and then continue through national route 259. After 9 km. you cross the river Esquel, and 4 km. farther a spectacular watching point reveals the magnificence of the valley of the river Percey, Situación range (2.300 m.) and Trevelin city.
In Trevelin, Welsh history is perceived everywhere, wether related to agriculture and mills or to the cultural and religious traditions of the pioneers. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the building of the Old Mill transformed into History Museum, with farming machines and testimonies of colonization, or any of the Tea Houses where you can taste the traditional pastry, including the typical "Black Cake". In this circuit you can also access to Amutui Quimei dam in the wonderful scenery of Los Alerces National Park. The name Amutui Quimei is a Mapuche voice meaning "lost beauty". Futaleufu power plant is a monumental dam constructed between 1973 and 1978 that provides energy to the aluminium plant in Puerto Madryn and also to the region. Lake Situación and a series of minor lakes are a result of this dam. |
