Today declared National Historical Monument and museum, it houses objects of different values, many of which are reflected in the biographical book “Recuerdos de provincia” (Recollections of a Provincial Past), in which the author seeks to rescue the memories of his family and the province, evoking the days of his youth.
When entering this house, visitors may see the ancient fig tree and the loom used by doña Paula Albarracín –his mother– as well as pieces of furniture, personal belongings, documents and newspapers from the early XIX century.
Among the objects bearing the greatest importance, it is worth to mention the desk used by Sarmiento in the house during his provincial administration between 1862 and 1864, part of the dishes stamped with a monogram and used by this figure while he was president of the country, and the first issues of books written by the former Argentinian leader.
