If there is one place to which everyone wants to return, that is estancia La Estela. Not only is it a magical place to stay, but it is also ideal to go on various kinds of tours around the surroundings.

Visit to Estancia La Estela
At the source of La Leona river, on Lake Viedma, there lies the shell of this particular estancia and its lodge, both called “La Estela”, surrounded by one of the most spectacular landscapes in Patagonia: Lake Viedma, its glacier and the silhouettes of Mounts Fitz Roy and Torre, two of the most difficult to climb in the whole world.

A memorable tourist destination, activities include the horseback rides that leave from the estancia and tour around a large portion of the shore of Lake Viedma.

Angling is also coveted among visitors. Specimens of rainbow and salmon trout, as well as perch, may be caught all along La Leona River and on the shores of Lake Viedma.

Provided with various rafts, this tour starts at the estancia shell and goes down La Leona River getting past the rural school. After several stops, it reaches the famous rest area.

Archery is also practiced at the estancia on a daily basis. The venue provides the necessary gear for visitors to test their aiming abilities. Safety is guaranteed, as well as amusement for all archers.

As a result of the diversity of sceneries and trails, mountain biking is highly requested by guests. They just need to raise their eyes to see the great number of different terrains to practice this wonderful sport. Circuits laid out among hills, sand banks and alongside La Leona River’s bank are ideal to be a part of the local Patagonian wildlife while enjoying these unique views.

Amateur photographers find in this place a real paradise at sight. Around the estancia, picturesque nooks invite guests to enjoy nature and all its manifestations.

But besides all this, staying at this beautiful estancia is an attraction itself. The guesthouse rooms have been decorated with the neatest country style details.

The matera nestled on La Leona River is one of the most beloved areas in the estancia. This site was specially designed to serve delicious homemade breakfast and to be delighted by a night with unforgettable asados made with the famous Patagonian lamb.

The room for multiple uses was recently inaugurated. It is perfect to relax by the fire after lunch or dinner, play pool and enjoy a good drink. It is furnished with soft armchairs, a varied library, a games room, a winery and a delicious decoration in the best Patagonian style, in addition to a telescope that lets guests appreciate the faces of the moon at night.

There is also the chance to spend one day at the estancia without staying overnight. The idea is to travel from La Leona rest area to the estancia, where travelers are welcomed with breakfast before they start practicing a series of activities specially thought for that day. They include a rafting adventure down La Leona River up to the rest area, where lunch is served. Then visitors go back to the estancia to start a horseback ride alongside La Leona River and Lake Viedma’s shore. Afterwards, a meeting is held at the matera to put up a brief fishing outing or an archery contest at the firing range. Later on, everyone returns to La Leona rest area once again, where tea is served and the tour comes to an end.
