The Museum is emplaced in an industrial park and is open to the public to appreciate its more than 700 samples and get acquainted through its explanations with the origin of the different minerals and fossils of remarkable importance.
This place receives the name of José Cholino in honor of a passionate mining devotee who founded the mining company working in this area, today run by his children.
Among the minerals you will find bentonite from 25 de Mayo, which offers innumerable uses. At present, it is exported as a component for medical and balanced food products.
In this region bentonite is used to waterproof the exploited oil wells .
Furthermore, in the museum you will see material collected for more than 20 years during the mining activity of the region, the country and the world, among which stand out those found in Morocco, Spain, Italy, USA and Brazil.
Teachers who want to visit the museum with a group must inform in advance to the telephone (0299) 494-8177 and bear in mind that visits are from Monday to Friday from 8 hs. to 12 hs. and from 15 hs. to 19 hs. except on legal holidays. The access is free. |
